Salmon River (Riggins), ID

Our Idaho shop sits right on the bank of the Salmon in Riggins, the whitewater capital of Idaho, so you can be on the water for four hours, a full day or one night without driving anywhere. At more than 400 miles, the Salmon is the longest undammed river in the Lower 48.

The river

The Riggins stretch runs right past town, with Time Zone, Chair and Trapps rapids, Class II to IV depending on flow. Upstream at Carey Creek, the 2-day trip launches under the Wind River Pack Bridge, with the best bighorn sheep viewing in the Riggins area.

Trips from Riggins

Orange Torpedo Trips runs half-day and full-day rafting trips, the Full-Day Thrill Seeker for ages 12 and up, and the 2-Day Intro to Overnight Rafting, a one-night taste of a multi-day trip. Whitewater Cowboys rents fully rigged rafts and inflatable kayaks from the Riggins shop for the Main Salmon, the Lower Salmon, the Riggins stretch and Hells Canyon. Want more days on the water? See the Main Salmon and the Lower Salmon.

When to go

Day trips run May through September. Late June and early July bring the biggest waves. August brings warmer water and mellower rapids.

Getting there

Our Riggins shop is at 1512 North Main Street, 40 minutes from McCall, two and a half hours from Lewiston and three and a half hours from Boise. Every Idaho trip runs on Mountain Time.
